The Los Angeles have had a lot of uncertainty about the bullpen this season, but manager Dave Roberts has revealed that the possibility of using the coming October Shei Ohtani could be an option for LA.
Last month, pitching coach Mark Mark Mark spoke about the possibility that Otani would be used from the bullpen, and went as far as he said the concept was “discussed.” Roberts spoke more openly about the idea Monday.

“I can’t answer that question now,” Roberts said. “But I think we’re going to do anything that we think is the best chance to give us a chance to win. And we know that shoes are open to anything. But we haven’t made that decision yet.”
Given the rules that don’t allow Otani to be used as a designated batsman, there’s a lot to consider whether Otani will pitch in a game he’s not starting when he leaves the mound. His talent to almost certainly win him his fourth MVP award is worth more than he can lose later in the game.
The situation where Otani will be in the match must be either if his spot does not appear again in the batting order, or if he is pitching to the ninth bottom. Other relief appearances that you know are caused by Ohtani’s location in the order must be intentionally skipped if he gets out of the game after he’s on the mound.
As a pitcher, Otani has a 3.75 ERA in 36 innings this season, hitting 49 and has only walked eight times a year.
As for crimes that are too valuable to pass on, Otani leads the National League with slugging percentages (.612), OPS (1.002), and intentional walks (16). He runs 128 with 128 with home runs third (second in the National League) and 48 with Aaron Judge in second.
