The Dallas Mavericks have signed the ex-draft pick for the exhibit 10 contract, but they have to give up another star to bring him back full time.
The Dallas Mavericks turned what felt like a hopeless situation in some way. After Luka Doncic traded with the Lakers, Mavericks was in dire circumstances.
However, they were handed a lifeline as the Mavericks won the NBA Draft Lottery and earned the right to draft the Cooper Flag.
The front office has made some moves this summer. One of them had something to do with bringing D’Angelo Russell to Mavericks.
And ahead of their preseason, the Mavericks signed an exhibit-10 contract with Dennis Smith Jr. But if the Mavericks want to keep him for the full season, they have to give up the exciting prospects.
Yesterday I learned that the Dallas Mavericks had signed an exhibit-10 contract with previous No. 9 general pick Dennis Smith Jr.
However, Brett Siegel reports that if Mavericks wants to sign Dennis Smith Jr. on the roster for next season, they have two options.
They can abandon Brandon Williams, a two-way star who’s doing very well in the G League. In fact, Williams won the G-League scoring title last season.
Their other option is to trade another star without regaining a heavier salary in order to try and create a cap room to take Smith Jr..
In seven years in the NBA, Dennis Smith Jr. took part in a short stint at Real Madrid. In fact, the stint didn’t last for more than a month.
However, fans will remember that Gershon Jabsere was the last notable player to go to the NBA from Real Madrid.
Jabsere, like Smith Jr., had lost his place in the NBA. But he will impress everyone with his stint with the 76ers.
And this summer, Yabucere moved to the New York Knicks. Perhaps Smith Jr. is targeting returns to similar shapes as the Mavericks.
