The New York Knicks can make big decisions to create a roster space.
They have some work before them as the New York Knicks complete their roster heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.
Most notably, two newest signatures, Landry Shamet and Malcolm Brogdon. Both security guards are currently signing camp contracts and wanting to win a full-time contract with the side.
However, the Knicks don’t have the cap space to sign both players and they have to make a deal to do so. The Knicks quickly ruled out Miles McBride.
So their decision depends on two players, Tyler Colek and Pacom Dadiette. Both stars show flashes of glow, but one of them has to go if the Knicks want to add more veteran depth.
In the aftermath of Malcolm Brogdon’s signature, it is revealed that the Knicks will replace one of their young stars to address Cap’s concerns.
Tyler Korek was almost instantly called the Knicks’ trade asset. However, over the past few days, the rumored factory has made him quite cold.
Instead, the Knicks are reportedly trying to trade Pacom Dadiettes, with the French star earning a somewhat teaser for teams who are even interested in a few minutes of a preseason game.
After all, it’s the right decision and one important reason. Pacome Dadiet’s contract is worth $2.85 million, while Tyler Kolek’s contract is worth $2.19 million.
So the difference between the two payroll is about $650,000 (estimated). If the Knicks trade collecteks, they will make just enough space to sign both Brogdon and Chamett. But they hit their limits.
However, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, when Dadiet signs two veterans to sign two veterans, he can sign veterans later in the NBA season, leaving him with a significant six-figure salary space.
What fans need to remember is that the lowest NBA veteran season is proportional to the season. This means that with each passing season, the minimum salary for a veteran will be reduced slightly.
This is why the Warriors are unable to sign Seth Curry until November this season. With the remaining money remaining, the Knicks were able to fill the roster as needed later in the season.
If the New York Knicks act quickly and pull the trigger of a trade, regardless of which player moves, that’s the greatest profit.
With the NBA season approaching, the Knicks want to lock the preseason stars in the deal to provide peace of mind and allow them to focus on improving.
However, the NBA does not have a guarantee. In fact, Shemet could lose his place to sign Knicks Training Camp, which he did well in the preseason.
Hopefully Knicks president Leon Rose and his front office will quickly make a decision and give Mike Brown the tools they need to compete for the championship.
