The Dodgers got a two-game lead in the World Series and set up nicely to win the championship with the two necessary wins… But can the Yankees get things back home?

The Dodgers lead 2-0

The Dodgers were in command position after the first two games of the World Series, and they counted their home advantage with a 4-2 and 6-3 victory at Dodger Stadium.

Three home runs hit in the second game of the series, with Tecker Hernandez, Freddie Freeman and Tommy Edman secured Game 2 for the Dodgers.

However, it was Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto who stole the LA show, allowing only one hit in the game with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings on Sunday.

When asked what went well after the match, Yamamoto replied: “I think everything was good.

“I was trying to focus on one batter at a time.

Yamamoto missed three months of the season with a rotator cuff and Tricep injury this year, and his return to the team was especially welcome at the start of the 2024 World Series.

Will the Yankees be able to come back?

The two-game deficit overturned in New York isn’t easy for the Yankees, but they’re not yet out of World Series races.

The Yankees will not be lost for the Yankees 2-0, as there are 10 teams in MLB history who have returned to win the World Series after losing the first two games.

The team has returned from two games before, but the feat has not been completed since 1996. In fact, the last side that returned from 2-0 was the Yankees.

Teams returning from 2-0 in the World Series

  • 1996 World Series – New York Yankees surround the Atlanta Braves in 6 games
  • 1986 World Series – New York Mets exploring the Boston Red Sox in 7 games
  • 1985 World Series – Kansas City Royals in 7 games for the St. Louis Cardinals
  • 1981 World Series – Los Angeles Dodgers of the New York Yankees in 6 games
  • 1978 World Series – New York Yankees of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 6 games
  • 1971 World Series – Pittsburgh Pirates via the Baltimore Orioles in 7 games
  • 1965 World Series – Minnesota twins Los Angeles Dodgers in 7 games
  • 1958 World Series – Milwaukee’s brave New York Yankees in 7 games
  • 1956 World Series – New York Yankees of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 7 games
  • 1955 World Series – Brooklyn Dodgers of the New York Yankees in 7 games

Of course, if the Yankees returned to Yankee Stadium on Monday night and tied things down and forced five games in Los Angeles, they could continue their momentum and win the championship.

Remaining World Series schedule and results

  • Game 1: Dodgers 6-3 Yankees
  • Game 2: Dodgers 4-2 Yankees

  • Game 4 (New York): Tuesday, October 29th
