Manchester United legend Gary Neville has admitted that Reuben Amorim’s side lost “edge” in the Premier League game.
The Red Devils lost to Brentford in their last match and have recently continued their disastrous domestic campaign with a 1-0 loss for the Wolves at home.
Man UTD has been down much, 15th in the Premier League, earning just 39 points so far, losing 16 games and having a goal difference of minus nine.
This isn’t enough for a United size club, but the Europa League was one comfort for them.
Gary Neville on the impact of the Europa League on Manchester United
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the fact that the league campaign is almost gone anyway means, in Neville’s view, collaboration with Amorim. They lost their advantage in the domestic games.
The focus appears to be fully winning the Europa League, with MUFC currently on the brink of reaching the final and qualifying for the Champions League.
“The league’s advantage is gone,” Neville said in an episode of overlap this week.
“United – Edge is gone, Edge quickly fell off.
Is Man United just focused on Europe?
Neville is probably right that United can’t juggle these two competitions completely with their current team, but that certainly isn’t the standard standard that clubs like this would want to get used to.
Roy Keene, a fellow Neville expert, certainly wasn’t impressed. They questioned why winning the Europa League meant that teams needed to drop points against teams like Brentford and the Wolf.
While Amorim may do well if he takes up the trophy and unites in the Champions League next season, it is clear that he will need to make major improvements in this Premier League campaign and that silverware will not be able to be painted on paper over the cracks.
