Manchester United is reportedly exploring options to replace goalkeeper Andre Onana. Cameroon International provided a way out of Old Trafford as speculation spreads over the summer switch.
The former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper have struggled at Old Trafford since joining the club under former manager Erik Ten Hag.
The goalkeeper was brought in primarily because of the ball’s ability to play as United was trying to change his playing style.
Man United will replace Andre Onana
However, his move has been a major failure and the Red Devils are currently looking for a replacement for him in the market.
In a recent interview, the United goalkeeper said:
“Are I leaving? I don’t know, I know!”
According to a report by L’Equipe, Monaco is exploring options to bolster its goalkeeping division ahead of the 2025/26 season, with United’s Onana emerging as a key target.
The Ligue 1 side is aiming to upgrade current options for goalkeepers, including Radoslaw Majecki and Philipp Kohn.
Monaco believes that by bringing in highly carable, experienced shot stoppers like Onana, it can provide the stability and presence that is currently lacking between posts.
As United reportedly accepts the offer from Cameroon International, Monaco sees a potential opportunity to secure goalkeepers they have experienced at the top level.
Monaco has other targets in mind.
Manchester United legend Andy Cole called him the club’s MVP last year.
“He’s creating a hell of a lot of saves… As United keeps throwing the ball away… the goalkeeper was their MVP… he has incredible legs too.”
However, Monaco is not the only one 29-year-old to watch. The club has also expressed interest in Djordje Petrovic, who is currently in Chelsea.
Another ambitious name reportedly on Monaco’s radar is Barcelona’s Mark Andretelstegen.
As for United, they are interested in the moves of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
