The FIA has plundered the head of sustainability, diversity and inclusion as part of its restructuring.
Sara Mariana will officially leave Formula 1 governing body on Friday after her role was removed amid structural changes that the FIA ”works in a more agile and effective way” will help each team across structurality, diversity and inclusion.
The reconstruction will be done as part of a broader internal structure review at the FIA.
Crash.Net understands that Mariana was given 18 months to create a new sustainability strategy, but this never arrived.
“We have been extremely grateful to Sara since 2023 and are extremely grateful for the leadership of this team and are taking steps to ensure that Sara is fully supported as we make this transition,” the FIA said in a statement.
FIA general manager Alberto Villareal added: “After careful consideration by the senior leadership team, the decision has been taken to restructure our sustainability and D&I capabilities to strengthen our capabilities in these two key areas.
“FIA plays a key role in promoting sustainable practices across motorsports and mobility, and providing member clubs with tools to bring ground change. By connecting more closely with members on topics like sustainable fuels, smart cities, and sports diversity, we can make a significant impact.”
“As we continue to streamline internal operations and improve the systems and processes within the FIA, we believe this structural change will maximize the value we offer to all stakeholders.”
Mariana critical of fia at the exit
According to BBC Sport, Mariana wrote a note that appears to be critical of the FIA leadership.
“There’s a life outside of FIA. A life where talent and dedication are rewarded. Women in leadership positions can feel thriving, worthy and respected,” she wrote.
“Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye. I loved the ride, and I enjoyed every minute.
“I enjoyed the amazing work we did and my incredibly talented team. I didn’t think it would end that very suddenly, but life went on.”
