The Dallas Mavericks concluded their 2025 NBA Summer League campaign with doves in victory column.
The Dallas Mavericks final contest in the 2025 NBA Summer League campaign featured a brief matchup with the Orlando Magic.
Given that the magic is 0-4 towards the game, Mavs is a crowd favorite and the franchise didn’t disappoint.
The Mavericks left in a 92-69 victory on the Eastern Conference side led by Maxwell Lewis.
The Denver Nuggets drafted Lewis on their 40th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. However, the 6’7” forward began his NBA journey with the Los Angeles Lakers.
However, the second pick, Lewis, was late in the pecking order as he was traded with Brooklyn Net in the 2024-25 NBA season.
Now, the Mavericks and Lewis reminded fans of his scoring ability with a 23-point victory over magic. Lewis led the game with 18 points to his name.
He also named one rebound and one assist while shooting a brilliant 7-10 from the field.
But the most admired aspect of his game was his three-point shooting. With just 15 minutes of playtime, Lewis escaped deep and finished the game with a perfect 4-4 over the arc.
Unlike the top picks in the NBA Draft, the second round picks do not get multiple years to prove their value to the franchise.
In a similar case, Lewis will soon turn 23. Speaking of his NBA career, he plays in just 62 games, averaging 2.0 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.
Lewis played well in the G League, gaining 14.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in 27 starts for the South Bay Lakers.
However, the biggest flaw in Lewis’ game is his somewhat overwhelming shooting. He shot just 38.0% off the field during his NBA career.
Even in the G League, Lewis averages 41.2% of his career from the field. Unless Lewis is consistently able to shoot from the floor as well as magic, it’s hard to see him earning a permanent deal with the NBA team.
