The Summer League will mark the first time NBA fans will be able to see the team’s latest draft picks on the basketball court.
Before the preseason begins in early October, rookies can make a good first impression against less opposition.
Summer League offers recent draft picks, undrafted free agents, and G League stars the opportunity to compete against each other in the rest of the NBA roster.
Well, for one Los Angeles Clippers player, stepping up from college basketball was more challenging than he wanted.
The LA Clippers selected Big Man Yanic Konan Niederhauser on the final pick in the first round (#30) of the 2025 NBA Draft.
The Clippers had to give up number 15 at 30 as they were trading picks with the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the infamous Paul George trade.
Of course, this made it much more difficult for general manager Trent Redden and head coach Tyrone Lou to find quality players, but it wasn’t impossible.
And it appears that in this early stage, the Clippers made a mistake. Niederhauser has struggled in both summer league matches so far.
His 10 rebounds and four blocks against the Houston Rockets on Friday night were impressive, but he only scored one point and committed four fouls.
Then on Sunday he managed two points and three rebounds against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Niederhauser is clearly physically talented, but his game is still very raw.
The good news for LA Clippers is that Niderhauser is not needed for the 2025-26 season, and they are excluded from the injury crisis.
Ivica Zubac proved he was a great starting center last year, and Brook Lopez’s offseason acquisition brought a lot of depth.

The Clippers currently have power forward John Collins. John Collins can play in five spots if necessary.
Niederhauser will probably only be called in trash time.
