The LA Clippers have not signed this offseason this offseason after landing Bradley Beale, but Chris Paul may have to fight for the spot.
The LA Clippers have done a really good job this offseason when it comes to building a new roster. After a lack of exits in the first round, the Clippers knew they had to deal with their team’s weaknesses.
After the Clippers re-signed James Harden to a long-term extension, the front office began working on bringing in some new talent.
The Clippers signed Brook Lopez in free agency, adding the depth of the center behind Evikasback next year.
But the big move was for the Clippers to trade Norman Powell to land John Collins on a three-team contract. After this deal they had to deal with weaknesses in the shooting guard spot.
And that’s exactly what they did, as the Clippers signed Bradley Beale to a $11 million deal. But that’s not all they’re planning to do in the coming weeks.
Shams Charania appeared on ESPN to discuss the impact of LA Clippers signing Bradley Beal in free agency.
He revealed that the Clippers are interested in Chris Paul and that they have other points and combo security guards to fill the depth chart in the coming weeks.
“The need for the Clippers right now is their point guard position, a reserve guard coming out of the bench. Of the several other free agent guards, it’s said that Chris Paul is on the radar.
“We hope that the Clippers will take a patient approach. We don’t expect them to make an immediate decision yet. But that spare point guard spot is what they’re aiming to meet.
“This is a team that really started loading here and we were able to keep our flexibility in the long term, along with James Harden, Kawi Leonard and now the mix Bradley Beale.”
But Chris Paul faces competition. Brett Siegel of Clutch Points revealed that Malcolm Brogdon is also on the Clippers radar. However, the team only plans to sign one of the security guards.
“In addition to Chris Paul, who is expected to sign with LA, the Clippers also have a strong interest in Malcolm Brogdon, sources told Clutch Point.”
“The team will not sign both Paul and Brogdon. Now, when Chris Paul shocks everyone and go elsewhere, it feels like Blogdon will be the top choice for the Clippers, the backup point guard spot.”
Paul has an advantage over Brogdon due to his previous stint with the Clippers. Many believe that the legendary point guard had the best year on the team.
The Clippers fanbase respects Paul very much. But at nearly 40, will Paul be a contributor to a solid bench for his competitor team?
His performance with the San Antonio Spurs last season showed that Paul still has a lot left in the tank, but the burst is limited. This is a difficult decision for the Clippers front office.
