Last night’s Jordan Henderson cameo provided Liverpool with a burst of nostalgia, but more eyes would have been on Curtis Jones when he began at the heart of Thomas Touchel’s three-man Lions team.
It was a daily victory. England saw Albania 2-0 through goals from debuting Miles Lewis Skelly and record-scaling scorer Harry Kane.
Jones has been steadily present in England camp since his debut in the fall. He scored for one of them against Greece.

What a rise for Liverpool academy graduates. Like Trent Alexander Arnold, Jones has become a club and national star, but not everyone in the Reds youth have managed to reach that height.
There’s no doubt that Trent is Liverpool’s greatest talent since Stephen Gerrard was inspired by the city.
That being said, the current crops look quite healthy.
Liverpool Academy Development
Liverpool’s talent factory has made great strides over the past few years, but this has not always been the case. Before Jurgen Klopp, there was little prospect of the authentic quality of Kirkby.
However, there was a stunning influx in Germany’s final years at the helm, and Connor Bradley and Jarrell Quansa became a regular feature of last term to join the existing stars of Alexander Arnold and Jones.
Success, of course, has led to the role of “Klopp’s Children” playing a helpful role in lifting the 2023/24 Carabao Cup. Currently, Anfield boasts a rich rank of young people, with Trey Nyoni and Rio ngumoha leading the next generation’s responsibility.
This new crop is amazing and everything, but Trent led the way to this academy revival in Merseyside. The picking was slim beforehand, but there was another person who was expected to be part of that trend setting group.
However, this has not happened with this Redman, who is currently a 27-year-old Clubless.
Liverpool’s outlook ahead of the torrent
The man in question here actually plunged into the scene before Alexander Arnold, but he has since plummeted deep into the game, playing little football for the past three years.
First impression
What did experts and fans think about signing their new star when they arrive? Football FanCust’s “First Impressions” series has everything you need.
Who remembers Ovie Ejaria? In the once cream of Liverpool’s Academy crops, the midfielder endured a tough career that threatened tough early conclusions.
He made eight competitive appearances for Liverpool during the 2016/17 season, earning praise from then-Academy manager Michael Beale.
“Oby has developed so many things since joining the academy,” Beale said. “He was always a lovely technician, but now he’s much more mature in his decision-making and application to his defensive duties.”
Alexander Arnold may be one of the best right-backs in the world, but he was mostly spotted in the middle before breaking into the scene in 2017.
It’s safe to say the 26-year-old winner won, sharing his role with Ejalia and seeking space and excellence, but things could have been very different considering Ejalia had gotten a chance before his former teammate.
Ejalia, a former Titan in the Liverpool youth scene, took the loan and then stayed forever on reading, creating a total of 127 displays in blue and white, earning 22 goals of involvement.
Since leaving League One Club, he was put on trial with Egyptian Premier League club Zamalek in October 2024, and has been rarely done.
Given the fate of the former England U21 International since leaving Liverpool, it’s pretty good business that Klopp and FSG were able to charge £3 million when they left for reading.
For a player once held in such high respect, it’s a shame that it didn’t work out that day’s superstar appeared at the start of Klopp’s dynasty before taking his first step.
But it also reminds us that Liverpool has built a massive boundary over the past decade.
