The Dallas Mavericks have made a bold choice for trade deadlines that changed future courses.
Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Weltz admitted he was surprised by the harsh backlash at the decision to trade Luka Donsic.
It was trade that shook the NBA world, sent Donsic to the LA Lakers and spurred fans’ protests both inside and outside the stadium.
The Mavericks acquired Anthony Davis and Max Christie in return, the former being injured in his first appearance and locked him out for several weeks.
But Don Chic Trade wasn’t the only one that was criticised by the Dallas Mavericks.
They traded Quentin Grimes for Caleb Martin’s Philadelphia 76ers.
Quentin Grimes’ exit was a sudden exit, and the only real logic to that was that his contract had expired. He remains a free agent and is looking to get his best situation ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Speaking to Yahoo, NBA expert Kevin O’Connor argues that the reason Grimes wanted from Mavericks is because of the structure of the roster created by trade.
He claims the Grimes didn’t want to play alongside another guard, Max Christie.
O’Connor said:
“That’s one of the reasons he was eventually sent to the 76ers.”
Grimes wants to find a new situation, which is understandable to some extent, given that he was in his contract year and wanted to maximize his playing time.
However, given the injuries, the Mavericks experienced it after the transaction.
Grimes spoke about the shocks that Dallas Mavericks players went through after learning Don Sic was traded.
They were in Cleveland at the time, preparing for a road game. He tells the young man and the three: “I didn’t sleep until 3am. I’m scrolling through Twitter all night, it’s crazy.”
He was later traded with the 76ers and was praised for his performance, including two games with over 40 points.
