There were doubts as to whether Pat Riley’s days as team president were coming to an end.
Riley is accused of forcing Jimmy Butler after a public clash with the superstar, and his lack of respect for modern players is seen by those outdated.
Regardless, Stephen A. Smith believes Riley, 80, is instructing that the team must start thinking about succession plans.
Then, speaking to ESPN, he insists that coach Eric Spoelstra should be considered to be in the executive role just as Brad Stevens did the Boston Celtics.
He said: “You’re watching Pat Reilly, he’s over 80, so are you thinking about who the next person is in the long term? What is their vision?
“Are you going to elevate Spoelstra? You’re going to make a version of Brad Stevens for Spoelstra South Beach.
“Brad Stevens, he was a very good coach, but my god, how did he prove to be an executive?”
He added that this will be necessary before any major trade moves arise, as the superstar wants to know the organization’s long-term path.
“Eric Sporstra might need to be that guy in Miami. Before Giannis or Giannis’ caliber goes to some place like South Beach, Miami says everything has to be neat.”
The topic of Giannis Antetocomo, moving from the Bucks in Milwaukee, may be debated, along with questions about whether the heat has assets.
Giannis’ priorities are to stay with the Bucks and succeed, summarizing the team’s strongest challenges since their victory in 2021.
However, if Milwaukee burns flames in the first round of the playoffs, the Greek freak may have to consider his options.
