The Miami Heat has found a player they want to maintain in the Davion Mitchell deadline acquisition.

This 2024-25 season wasn’t easy in the heat of Miami, and months were dominated by a standoff with Jimmy Butler.

However, there were also bright spots, one of which was Davion Mitchell.

Davion Mitchell, which was acquired by the franchise at the February deadline, was a very useful acquisition in the heat. The fourth-year guard gave Miami a steady presence in his point guard position, earning the praise of Bam Adebayo at one point in his fuss and defensive position.

Mitchell’s performance even led Eric Sporstra to describe him as Kyle Rory 2.0.

As the solid run continues for Mitchell in South Beach, the heat is reportedly being decided to expand his partnership with the former lottery star in the long run.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Miami wants to keep Mitchell up and is likely to expand the offer for The The To The Grati.

By offering a qualifying offer, Mitchell becomes a restricted free agent.

If he receives offers from other teams this 2025 offseason, the Heat may choose to re-sign him. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old could either embrace QO or restructure a new multi-year deal with the franchise.

Jackson wrote: “That $7.8 million is only $4 million left over the 2025-26 luxury tax line, so it’s a big deal.

Wearing a fever uniform is a blessing for Mitchell every night.

In the 27 games he’s played for Miami so far (14 starts), he averaged 10.3 points, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steels 49.5% off the field and 45.3% on 3-point land, making a significant improvement in numbers, particularly on the offensive side.

Mitchell already gave a compelling answer when asked about his future in Miami. And by looking at the personal success he has, we can expect him to continue to commit to the team beyond the season.

If the offseason hits, we hope that both sides will broaden their relationship and continue their work.
