The last MotoGP visited in 2020, returned to Brno this weekend for the Czech Grand Prix.
Oliveira, like Luca Marini, was one of the few riders to test at BRNO at the beginning of the summer.
The Honda HRC rider’s resurfacement opinion is clearly positive, with Oliveira sharing similar thoughts this weekend about the new track surface of the circuit hosting the first Czech MotoGP in five years.
“That’s exactly how I remember that a few years ago, when we last raced in 2020,” Miguel Oliveira told Motogp.com. Gear up Preview show at Brno.
“It’s a very wide track. We (in tests) at the time (in tests) came straight from Assen, so it felt like we were on the highway.
“The most incredible side was the grip, which was very good.
“And one of the reasons we didn’t come here anymore is because of the low grip conditions and I think they did a great job (on resurface).”
Typically, this year, Yamaha was more competitive with high grip circuits and cooler races. With regeneration and temperatures expected to be around 20°C cooler than the private test at the end of June, Oliveira is hoping for a chance for Iwata Marc this weekend.
“We’re already starting with a fair amount of grip on the truck, so certainly, it might help us a little more. That’s at least what we want,” said the Pramac Yamaha rider.
“This year, it usually works well in a place where there is a fair amount of grip and you actually manage not to overheat the rear tires.
“The temperature under test is also less than 20 degrees Celsius (Celsius) at the track temperature, so that might help us as well.
“It starts a bit from scratch for everyone and I don’t want to (has) high expectations about the race.”
Oliveira added that he did about 10 laps before the familiar laps of Brno, and that he doesn’t think testing there would give him an advantage over non-school riders.
“It took five to ten laps to wrap my head around the track again, as the bike was so different from five years ago,” Oliveira explained.
“But it’s very quick and I don’t think it’s a huge advantage because both from a setup perspective and the electronics are already very central and we’re in a good place, so I think that’s a small advantage we may have.
“But it’s a normal weekend, so I’ll ask for it from the first practice.”
