Malik Beasley had an incredible year with the Detroit Pistons last season, averaging 16.3 points in the regular season.
He was one of the reasons the Eastern Conference side improved from the terrifying 14-68 record in the 2023-24 season and continued its final playoff campaign.
The 28-year-old came out mostly from the Detroit Pistons’ bench, but he did an incredible job for them and was expected to re-sign in the offseason.
However, as the free agency market opened, it was reported that Malik Beasley was involved in several legal troubles.
Almost two months later, Beasley’s lawyer told ESPN that the players were not part of the investigation.
This has resurfaced discussions about his future as the New York Knicks reportedly express their interest in getting him, Clutchpoint reports.
Reports say the Pistons were ready to offer Beasley a three-year, $42 million deal before the controversy.
However, due to doubts over his future, they decided to introduce Duncan Robinson as a free agent on a three-year, $48 million contract.
This does not rule out the possibility that they will get Beasley back as they still have an open roster spot and could offer him a contract.

However, they can only offer him a $7.2 million contract, as they still retain Beasley’s non-bird rights despite him being an unlimited free agent.
The Knicks are interested in bringing him to the team, but they can only offer the veteran minimum deal as there is not much space under the cap space.
Beasley has the option to join any team as an unlimited free agent. The Pistons can’t provide him with the money he deserves, but Beasley knows how much he is loved by his fans and players.
The player was second in the sixth Man of the Year vote last season, becoming the fifth player in history, allowing him to make 300 three-pointers in a single season.
His ability to get out of the bench and contributed was a major reason behind all the piston success.
| season | point | 3-point shooting |
| 2024-25 | 16.3 | 41.6% |
| 2023-24 | 11.3 | 41.3% |
| 2022-23 | 12.7 | 35.7% |
The Pistons added a player with a similar profile at Robinson, but because of the impact he had on them, they would still be happy to bring Beasley back to life.
In addition to his brilliance in the regular season, Beasley was also great in the playoffs.
Piston has the best young core, but once they get Beasley back, their strength increases as the veterans need them to help them as the season progresses.
