Boston Celtics’ Al Horford is expected to lead interest from several NBA teams.
The Boston Celtics are already trading Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis as they are projected to dodge the scary second apron for the 2025-26 NBA season.
However, the 39-year-old is an unlimited free agent this summer, so they still need to decide on Al Horford.
He may be old, but as evident from his worries about Bill Simmons signing with La Lakers, he is still talented. Putting that aside, what about the possibility that Horford will join the New York Knicks? It may be.
So far, the Knicks have made headlines for their disastrous head coaching search after firing Tom Thibodeau.
While that was still going on, NBA insider Ian Begley brought fresh Inter to Horford and brought Knicks rumours.
“I think the Knicks will at least check in the situation at Horford in Boston. The Celtics will throw away their pay by trading Julou Holiday and Christaps Porzingis. They certainly want to get Horford back, but there’s only a limited amount of what they can offer to the veteran big man,” Begley wrote for Snee.
But that’s not all, as Begley pointed out that Horford has a close friendship with Knicks star Karl Anthonytowns.
“Along the way, Horford has a close ties to the town of Karl Anthony,” Begley added in the report.
| statistics (2024-25) | Al Horford |
| point | 9.0 ppg |
| rebound | 6.2 RPG |
| assist | 2.1 APG |
Winning Horford is great for the Knicks as they win a championship-winning veteran in their leadership role in the locker room. The close relationship between Horford and Kat is an additional bonus.
With or without Horford, the Knicks still have a good roster as they went to the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals. They also added rookie Mohamed Diawara to their team, so it’s an ongoing project.
But the organization’s main concern ahead of next season is finding an alternative to manager Thibodeau.
Begley provided an update on the current situation and said, “I would lie if I told you I knew where things were on the weekend, but I know I made a good impression and gained support during the interview process.”
Besides Mike Brown, the Knicks have interviewed Mika Nori, Taylor Jenkins and James Borrego. But when things stand now, Brown seems to be his favorite.
