The Boston Celtics may not be the biggest contender for the 2025-26 season, but the franchise is focusing on victory. That’s what the team owner thinks. This is a good sign of the team’s long-term future.
As the team with the most NBA championships at the age of 17, the Boston Celtics have a historic pedigree. All players, front office members and owners who participate in the team must meet very high standards for success.
Over the past few seasons, Boston has endured these standards, reaching the NBA Finals twice in 2022 and 2024. They won the franchise’s 17th title in 2024, the championship in 2024, surpassing their fierce rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.
In May 2025, the Celtics franchise was sold to private equity investor William Chisholm for a whopping $6.1 billion. The massive movement has put Chisholm in the spotlight. Thankfully, Celtics fans have the new owners right mindset.
As the owner of the Celtics, Chisholm must live up to some high expectations. That’s not immediate considering that most people agree that the 2025-26 season is not a one-year competition.
Tatum is not on the team due to his long-term Achilles injury. The team appreciates Tatum’s efforts during his recovery, but will take him for the 2025-26 season.
Despite those feelings, Chisholm wants to continue helping the team as he wants to succeed in the Celtics. He is not only an owner, but a lifelong fan of the Celtics. It makes sense for the organization as he wants to make the best decisions to help his team succeed.
“My wife, Kimberly and I have raised a family of stubborn Celtics fans. We are grateful to be the Celtics organization, the greatest sports franchise in the world and the greatest sports city in the world,” Chisholm said at a Celtics press conference.
“This is a dream for me and my family, but I also realize that this opportunity has a great deal of responsibility. I understand that it is my ownership group and that it is actually “different here” and that I have a responsibility to protect and advance the legacy of the Boston Celtics. ”
“We believe we are taking on this challenge, but we recognize that we need to prove it during the day and in the middle of our day by our actions and our commitment to excellence.”
The franchise is in good hands considering he also works with Brad Stevens, the president of the basketball operations team. It will be a tough year due to Tatum’s injuries, but other players are ready to step up, including Brown, the Celtics contract leader without Tatum.
With Chisholm leading the team, he is focused on helping them reach the top of the NBA again. It’s challenging as other teams stepped up, including the 2025 champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
His presser has his comments, and Chisholm focuses on helping the Celtics succeed. For Celtics fans, that’s some good news given that they’re the best franchise in the NBA. If they miss out, it will be harmful to Celtics history while the other teams thrive.
With Stevens leading the charge in the front office, the Celtics are in a good position to continue fighting in the championship race. It’s challenging, but they already have good head start as they have superstars like Tatum and Brown on their team.
