Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beale’s Phoenix Suns experiments are likely to meet the anti-climax end this offseason.
The 2024-25 NBA season was not fruitful for the Phoenix Suns. This is because the organization missed the postseason following an 11-seed finish at the Western Conference.
Following the overwhelming performance, rumors surrounding Kevin Durant’s departure have only become stronger. The San Antonio Spurs are proposed as the ideal destination for the 2X NBA champions.
The Spurs are Durant’s preferred destination and the Spurs may benefit from his additional benefits, but remember that the slim Shinigami is already 36 years old.
Obviously, the Spurs wouldn’t want to give up much for the older superstar who has an estimated salary of $54.7 million for the 2025-26 season.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the Spurs rejected KD’s Sands’ asking price with potential trade.
“My friends in San Antonio think the price is too high and know that original discussions like the second pick and Stephon Castle don’t work very well on the edge of the Spurs on the phone.
The Spurs may have assets to trade with superstars, but it’s not wise to waste them with the aging version of KD.
Durant may have averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for the Suns last season, but the fact that double the NBA champions are getting older remains the same.
Certainly, the Sands paid Durant a massive price in 2023, but it’s unrealistic to expect similar returns in 2025. Sands Insider Duane Rankin confirmed this in a recent report from the Republic of Arizona.
“The Phoenix Suns may be too valuable for Kevin Durant and may have to lower the asking price in negotiations for deals,” Rankin wrote.
“The Suns “There’s no leverage,” as Durant’s age and he wants to start fresh from elsewhere.
“The idea that Durant will return to the team who entertained his trade before the 2025 trade deadline is not a pleasant one,” he added.
