Chelsea has been deeply connected with the movements of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in recent weeks.

The 29-year-old French international is the target of the Blues, and it will be interesting to see if they can secure his signature. He will soon enter the final 12 months of the contract and may be available for reasonable amounts.

Mainyan hopes to join the London Club this summer.

Mike Meignan will be the starter for Chelsea

According to football insider Pete O’Rourke, he will be the number one choice for Chelsea’s goalkeeping spot if he joins the club. Additionally, his arrival could indicate the exit for Robert Sanchez and Jorge Petrovich.

He states: “The goalkeeper is a blues issue area. Maignan was impressive at the international level between Milan’s Champions League and France.

“His arrival could mean off-roading like Sanchez or perhaps Petrovich, because Mainyan would definitely be the number one choice if he signed it.”

Both players must play regularly at this stage of their careers and do not want to sit on the bench or Chelsea as a backup for the French International. It would make sense for them to move on.

Sanchez has been criticised for his performance since joining the club, and since leaving Brighton he hasn’t been at his best. Ideally he would move on and join another club. Chelsea need better players at their disposal if they want to win a major trophy. Mainyan is one of the best in the world in his position and he will be a tremendous upgrade.

Given his contract status, he is likely to be available in bargains and Chelsea can’t afford to miss him. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the next few weeks.
