The Los Angeles placed utility man Tommy Edman on their list injured with inflammation in their right ankle. In a corresponding move, the called infielder Heisen Kim.

The roster move isn’t surprising given that Kim was previously reported on his way to Atlanta to join the team. However, Edman’s IL stint comes as a shock.
Edman said ahead of the series’ opener on Friday, he felt his ankles were “a lot better” than the previous day. The 29-year-old suffered a slide injury to his ankle during his victory with the Marlins on Tuesday.

Edman was not in the lineup on Friday, but he went through a full workout. However, the injury appears to have been more serious than previously speculated for Edman to head to IL.
Edman’s time isn’t ideal, but his departure opens the door for Kim to get opportunities in the Big League.
Kim signed a three-year, $12.5 million contract with the this offseason. He joined the defending champion with his own hardware as he is the winner of KBO’s four-time gold gloves.
Kim’s defense is elite, but his bats became a problem this spring. The infielder struggled to adapt to major league speeds, and plate issues were what prevented him from building a roster for the opening day.
Despite this, Kim revamped his swing and began the season with a triple-A, hitting .257 at the .801 OPS. His strong start from Oklahoma City pushed Kim into the majors.
