The Glasgow Rangers already know they’ll finish their Scottish premiership season in second place after their city rival won the title at the end of last month.
The Light Blues locked Celtic into a 1-1 draw at Ibrox on Sunday in a meaningless game in terms of league tables, but it still made a lot of sense for fans who saw the team take a lively display to avoid a loss.
The Rangers will want to make a lot of fights overall in the premiership next season.
Appointing the right manager to move the club forward is crucial and Barry Ferguson doesn’t look like he’s going to be that guy.
Light Blues has linked to an external appointment to replace the Scottish boss, currently in interim claim, after Philip Clement was fired earlier this year.
Gerrard was lined up for Rangers Return.
Recently, Football Insider reported that the English manager is a “favorite” to return to Ibrox to replace Ferguson this summer.
The outlet has revealed that he is currently a leading candidate for work ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Gerrard was claimed to be a candidate for the club’s management option, ahead of former RB Leipzig tactician Marco Rose.
Of course, it was the second stint for the former Liverpool midfielder at Ibrox, leaving the Glasgow Giants in 2021 to manage Aston Villa.

As you can see from the table above, Gerrard’s final 50 matches in charge of Rangers in the Premiership were nothing but extraordinary with just one loss and 40 wins, including an unbeaten title victory campaign for the 2020/21 season.
The boss of GERS had some great players to work with in the club’s history. One key player in the success of that title was, for example, central midfielder Glenn Kamara, who provided the presence of Metronomy in the middle of the park.
Why Glenn Kamara was important to Stephen Gerrard
The impressive central midfielder, who signed Gerrard’s side from Dundee in January 2019, played a pivotal role in the midfield in the 2020/21 campaign.
Kamala played 33 of 38 league matches, starting 29 of these games, abolishing the quality of British tacticians in the 4-3-3 system.
The Finnish star scored only one goal in that term, as shown in the clip above, but he contributed in other ways with his great midfield performance.
Kamala took advantage of his physicality, mobility and technical quality to dominate the middle of the park, earning his duel and being incredibly reliable on the ball at the prime minister’s feet.

As you can see from the table above, Finland International won most of the battles on the ground and in the air, but rarely dumped the ball on a pass.
These statistics show how important Kamala was to Gerrard’s part. Because he can combine technical quality with physical robustness to balance the light blue mid-length.
Now, in the form of Bailey Rice, the Ranger has a promising young talent that can become the new version of Gerrard’s Kamara if Garth appointed the UK head coach again.
Why Bailey Rice could become the new Glen Camara
Like the Finnish ace, the 18-year-old midfielder is a player with the potential to offer technical quality with strong defensive quality in the middle of the park.
Of course, Rice is not a finished article and should not be expected at age 18, but is a starlet that can be developed and improved under Gerrard’s management, with the aim of making him even lower star.
The teenage Dynamo has played 12 times for his first team so far in his younger career, with nine of these games participating in the current campaign.
In these matches, Rice shows he has a glimpse into the kind of quality he can consistently offer in the future if his development is on the right track, giving his manager plenty of opportunity to move forward.
The Rangers starlet did enough to leave TNT Sport Pundit and Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand with adore the Red Devils in the Europa League this semester, adore TNT sports experts and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand as former England international welcomed his “great” pass and welcomed the “midfielder” preferring the younger look.
Rice scored 75% of his airborne duels and created one “big opportunity” for his team in three appearances in Europe this season, but he gave a glimpse of quality in the premiership.

Duels won by 90 people | 5.93 |

As you can see at the table above, the Light Blues teenager, despite being 18, showed off his defensive abilities against the GERS by acquiring most of the physical battle, almost earning six duels per 90.
Analyst John Walker argued that one of Rice’s qualities was “his offensive nature of breaking the line with a forward pass,” but his 80% accuracy of the pass suggests there is still something to be done to translate it effectively to the first team level.
So there’s all the qualities that young midfielders can develop into a star who can play in the same way as how Kamala did with Gerrard in the 2020/21 campaign.
If Gerrard is the next Rangers manager, the former England International, who played midfield in his playing career, could work with Rice on the training pitch to turn it into Ibrox’s next version of Kamala over the next few years.
