Los Angeles All-Star catcher Will Smith was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at the top of three innings.

The announced that Smith had left the game with contempt on his right hand.
Smith was injured when he hit a foul ball at the bottom of two innings. The foul tip hit him directly in his right hand and placed him on the side of his leg. Here is the video of the play:
The will provide more updates after the game when manager Dave Roberts talks to reporters. Smith will likely take further tests before the team reveals his next step.
Smith is in the middle of another dominant season in LA, hitting .296 on 17 home runs, hitting 61 runs with an OPS of .902. If he is forced to miss time, rookie Dalton Rushing will take over the catching duties full-time.

According to LA, this is just a fear of injuries, and Smith can rejoin the team sooner than later. The took part in Wednesday’s game, leading the San Diego Padres in the National League West three games.
