The San Antonio Spurs will officially enter a new era during the 2025-26 NBA season.
The San Antonio Spurs were incredible success as they made 22 straight postseason appearances under coach Greg Popovich.
However, the Spurs have been at the bottom of the barrel since 2019. In fact, Popovich officially resigned as the team’s head coach, with Mitch Johnson taking over his duties.
With manager Johnson at the helm, the Spurs are expected to make significant progress during the 2025-26 NBA season. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how well the front office worked during the offseason.
It is clear that the Spurs will be building around Victor Wenbanyama in the near future. After suffering a season-ending injury last season, Wenbanyama is preparing for a big comeback.
With Wemby as the cornerstone, Spurs already have multiple young prospects who can help the French star bring their team to glory.
However, Wenbanyama’s biggest asset is nothing more than Dearon Fox. The Spurs have already re-signed Fox to a major four-year extension. But is that? Well, no.
- De’aaron Fox (re-signed 4-year contract)
- BismackBiyombo (re-signed one-year contract)
- Jordan McLaughlin (re-signed one-year contract)
- Kelly Olynyk (trading from Washington Wizard)
- Lindy Waters III (signed one-year contract)
- Luke Corne (signed four-year contract)
Aside from Fox’s return, the addition of Luke Cornett should excite the Spurs fanbase. After all, even his former Boston Celtics teammate Derrick White was upset by Cornett’s departure.

It was clear that the front office had to let go of a few players as the Spurs were finally aiming to compete for the NBA championship next season.
The most notable departure from the Spurs roster is nothing more than Chris Paul. After all, CP3 showed incredible resilience as he played all 82 games at the 39-year-old last season.
He also played a key role in guiding Wenbagnama during a brief stint with the franchise. In addition to Paul’s exit, there are all players who will not be on the Spurs’ roster next season.
- Chris Paul (remained as a free agent)
- Blake Wesley (remained as a free agent)
- Sandro Mamukelashvili (remained as a free agent)
- Malachi Branham (trading with the Washington Wizard)
These moves make The Spurs ‘2025-26 lineup very different from last season, but it would be worth it if the team could once again become a permanent playoff team at Western Conference.
