The change in offensive mindset not only helped the whole team, but left Fielder, who showed little signs of life at the plate. After a dominant victory over the Padres before leaving Petco Park and slamming the Cincinnati Reds 7-0 on Monday, Michael Comfort spoke about what the new outcome would look like.
“The past few days have been great,” Comfort said of the team. “I think it’s just a little bit of a mentality switch. There’s not much about slug the ball, shattering the bat and preparing for batting. You just get the pitch, finish the bat and have a bit of control over the zone.
Conforto has been on a pair of hits and a walk between his two victories, looking to improve his .187 batting average, which he posted in his career worst year on the plate so far.
