After hitting .223 in the first half of the season, Edman hit .263 in 11 games after the All-Star break, but was derailed in early August with an ankle sprain.
His bats have certainly been overlooked lately, but his ability to play in the outfield and infield is invaluable for a team that lacks defensive depth.
As for Dean (a defensive exchange in the outfield last month and an occasional pinch runner), he will look for the next opportunity on the show. He returned to Triple A and hit .274 in 81 appearances, stealing 25 bases, collecting 31 RBIs in the process.
Edman’s return to the is promising – especially with close divisional races and a handful of games left up to the postseason, he recently returned to the roster to join other long-lost .
The third All-Star baseman Max Muncie was revitalized on Monday after losing nearly a month on the month due to diagonal strain, and Southpaw bailiff Alex Vescia returned to the team on Tuesday after nursing his diagonal tension.
Edman has reduced .228/.281/.396 by .677 OPS compared to last year’s shortened statistics after last year’s midseason acquisition. But if he can contribute in a similar way to what he did in his run to the World Series last year, the will have a good move.
When the postseason began, Edman hit .328/.354/.508, earning a .862 OPS on his way to NLCS MVP honors, helping the raise banner No. 8.
