At the Eastern Conference, there was no confusion in the first round of the 2025 playoffs. All four high seeds reached the semi-finals of the conference.
The same cannot be said in the West. Two of the top three species were bounced in the first round. Houston was the #2 seed and lost to the #7 seed Warriors in 7 games. #3 Seed Los Angeles Lakers lost five games to the #6 Timberwolves. The third time in NBA history will bring together #6 and #7 seeds in the postseason.

Seeds #6 and #7 must both lose in the first round to meet in the semi-finals of the meeting. That’s exactly what happened in the 2025 playoffs. First, the #2 Seed Houston Rockets faced the #7 Seed Golden State Warriors. However, the Warriors were far better than the #7 seed next to its name. The team added Jimmy Butler to the trade deadline, completely changing the outlook for the season.
Golden State took a 3-1 lead with the Rockets, but lost two straights and Game 7 was played on Sunday. Buddy Hield exploded for a playoff career-high 33 points. He made nine people, and it was huge for the warrior. Their opponent in the conference semi-finals are the Timberwolves. Minnesota is the #6 seed in the 2025 playoffs. They confused #3 Lakers 4-1 in the opening round series.
Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves are competing in the conference semi-finals of the second coalition season. Their final game was Wednesday, April 30th. The Timberwolves had time off until their next game on Tuesday, May 6th. Steph Curry and #7 Seed Warriors are in Minnesota for Game 1. Golden State also achieved this in the 2023 playoffs, where he played against the Lakers. This is twice in the last three postseasons.
