Christopher Ewart was cut from the promotion after signing a brief notification fight at UFC 317, living a dream and nightmare for several days, and then gaining the opportunity to compete due to lack of weight for a match against Jackson McVay.
It was announced just before the official measurement began. EWERT was unable to make contract weight and was released soon. Ewert was originally scheduled to compete in the competitor series in August before accepting a short notice fight, but his weight-cutting disaster seems to have left the opportunity away from him as well.
Thankfully, Ewert got some good news in the aftermath of UFC 317.
The 31-year-old Chilean fighter will have the opportunity to compete in the competition series in the fight against Yuri Panferov on August 19th.
Sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck following an initial report from ESPN reporter Carlos Contreras Legaspi.
Competing in the Contender series now does not guarantee that Ewert will have another opportunity to make a first impression at the UFC, but he can at least comfort him with the opportunity to correct the wrong thing since last weekend.
His coach, Javier Torres, previously informed the MMA fight that Ewert was desperately trying to descend on the middleweight limit after EWERT signed to accept the fight in a short period of time.
Despite their best efforts, Ewert was still shortened, resulting in the UFC releasing him from his contract.
“We were doing our best,” Torres said. “We cut £22 from Wednesday to Friday morning.”
The new season of Dana White’s candidate series begins on August 12th before Ewert has the opportunity to impress UFC officials on August 19th.
