Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson doesn’t understand UFC’s needs for BMF titles.
The promotion’s bragging rights belt will be in line this July when UFC dominant motherf*cker got a glove with Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 in New Orleans. Given that the promotion didn’t bring him home the lightweight title on three separate occasions, it’s understandable that he wants to give him the opportunity to leave the belt, as it is the final battle of Poilier’s iconic career.
However, not everyone is a fan of the BMF belt. Some people think it’s nothing more than a marketing ploy to try and add a little extra to the main event other than the title, like the battle that began between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal in UFC 244.
But in Jackson’s case, he simply doesn’t understand why the title exists or what it means.
“I really don’t understand,” Jackson said on the Jaxxon podcast. “Yeah, I don’t really understand what it is. I don’t know that. But I think it’s good for entertainment. I don’t think the BMF belt is a bad idea. I think it’s confusing.
History of UFC BMF Titles
Since its founding in 2019, the promotional bragging rights belt has been on the line three times, first between Masvidal at UFC 244.
After Masvidal retired, Justin Gaethje picked up the mantle via highlight reel head kick KO against Poirier at UFC 291.
Gaethje dropped his belt nine months later after receiving a buzzer knockout against former featherweight Max Holloway in the UFC 300.
Blessed’ was then defeated by Ilia Topria, but the BMF belt was not in the line in that case. Now, not only does he try to bounce back from particularly cruel losses, but Holloway tries to become the first fighter to successfully defend the BMF title when he meets “Diamond” in Nora.
