Gabriel Boltreto was not impressed by Kimi Antonelli’s “embarrassing” overtaking and was hit by the F1 Monaco Grand Prix.
Formula 1 rookie Boltreto and Antoneli clashed as they fought to settle their positions on the opening lap of a race in the Principality last weekend.
The 18-year-old Italian returned his favor in Portier after Boltreto pulled out an impressive overtaking outside Antoneri’s Mercedes with a hairpin.
Boltreto was forced to hit a barrier as he was unable to pursue Antoneri’s charge. The Brazilians were able to turn Sauber back off the wall and step into the pit for a new front wing.
And the real-life Formula 2 champions were not happy with Antoneri’s driving. His rival claimed he had made a “very optimistic move.”
“It’s a shame what happened on the first lap. I think I was able to make some very solid moves in order with the hairpins.
“Obviously, he doesn’t want to see the car in front of him. It’s very embarrassing to lose his position in Monaco. Usually, historically, you don’t lose your position, but it’s a bad thing because you don’t get either.
“And I think he tried to do a very optimistic move there. We’ve seen a lot of crashes in the past, not the first time.
“He didn’t touch me, but he had to go straight, avoid hitting him, hit the wall and destroy the front wing, turn it around and return to the pit.
Boltreto has not yet decided on the story of Antoneri.
After Sunday’s race, Boltreto, who finished 14th, was undecided whether he would reach Antoneri, who has now become P18 to discuss the incident.
“I don’t know. Certainly he didn’t want me to put him on a wall or something. He ended up doing that in my opinion. At some point I’ll talk to him, but I don’t know, I need to think about it.”
“I don’t want to cause trouble. I’m not fighting for the title or the points of the moment here, so I don’t know why he’s going to do that or why he’s taking that risk.
