Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta says “no doubt” that all 22 Grand Prix events will be held in 2025 as MotoGP returns to Hungary.
This year’s calendar is the longest in history, but it’s not the first time Dona has tried to set 22 events.
Last year’s calendar was originally scheduled to feature 22 events, but Argentina and India were cancelled for economic reasons, and Kazakhstan dropped out of schedule due to flooding in the region.
The 2023 calendar was scheduled to feature Hungary and Kazakhstan, but Finland was continuously scheduled and then dropped a few years ago.
So far, all races have been scheduled for 2025, with the return of the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 22-24th as scheduled after the recent completion of layout adjustments to Balaton Park.
In an interview with Gpone, Carmelo Ezpeleta is confident that the entire 22-round calendar is going as planned, foreseeing that there will be no problem with Hungarian Grand Prix moving forward.
“Except for unexpected events, we’ll be holding all the Grand Prix events scheduled this year,” he said.
“I have no doubt about that.
“Everything goes according to Hungary’s plans.
“Our people were there last week, but the construction work will be completed on time. We’re not worried, especially as the World Superbike Championship will take place on the final weekend of July.”
MotoGP will hold a demonstration event at the venue in March and is set to return to Brazil for the first time since 2004 and since 2004.
Ezpeleta points out that while the circuit does not require much work, the facility needs to be completely overhauled to host the MotoGP round.
It may fill a set of slots sets set to be empty by the Argentine Grand Prix.
The Indian Grand Prix is set to return to the calendar in 2026 after enforcing “operational status” from its 2024 and 2025 schedules.
