The Golden State Warriors season ended with a disappointing second round exit and fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.
As offseason rumours began to swirl around the franchise, keen security guard Buddy Heald made clear his intentions. He hopes to stay in San Francisco in the near future.
In a postseason interview, Hield expressed his strong desire to continue playing with Stephen Curry, whom he believes will help both his happiness with the Warriors organization and his team’s success.
“We see the value of this team’s spacing. It can’t be Steph there. And when he wasn’t there, we can see how they play in the Minnesota series,” explained Hield, highlighting the offensive dynamics that make Golden State’s system special.
The 31-year-old shooter highlighted how his skill set complements the Warriors’ needs. “His space and his shooting are very necessary in this league and this team, so I want to be here forever.
The Curryless Warriors’ struggle was painfully evident in the playoffs as they went 0-4 in a game they missed with a hamstring injury.
Beyond his personal commitment, Hield has expressed confusion over why more NBA players are actively involved in Golden State’s roster and will not try to play alongside Curry.
“I don’t know why guys don’t want to play with guys like Steph.
“It’s attracting so much attention and all defensive players like Draymond can clean a lot for your defense,” Hield said.
He continued to support the Warriors system. “I don’t know why players around the league don’t want to come and play here. It’s a fun deal. It’s a lot of sacrifice, but it’s a great sacrifice.”
Hield joined the Warriors in his final offseason as part of a complicated multi-team sign-and-trade that sent Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. His contract includes a year that was guaranteed at least two years or more before the player options for the 2027-28 season.
In his first campaign with Golden State, HIELD averaged 11.1 points, shooting 41.7% off the field and 47% beyond the ARC.
The Warriors are expected to explore various roster moves this summer, but Hield’s commitment and contract status suggests he can remain part of their core as they try to maximize Curry’s remaining prime year.
