However, the two teams have put trade talks aside for the time being.
Heading into the season there were two positions the weren’t cemented. It’s the second base and the center field. The can use utility man Tommy Edman in either position, but he mainly plays on 2 bases. But when Andy Page was struggling with the plate, he filled out at the Center Field.
Page and Outman were competing for a chance to emerge as the ‘ everyday centre fielder this spring, but the team wasn’t committed to naming the set’s starter. Outman chose Triple A after the Tokyo Series.
“I think it’s just going to stay fluid,” manager Dave Roberts said in March. “I think it’s a position where there are different players who can play second base and centre field, so it’s not going to be a specific situation on the left and right.
“I think it’s just a spinning of Tommy (Edman), Kique (Hernandez), Miguiro (JAS) second base, Tommy in center field and Andy in center field (Page), so it’s kind of fluid.
If the resume trade talks with Chicago, Robert’s arrival could secure a routine center fielder. Robert is currently off to a slow start with the plate, hitting .178 with a .536 OPS. He has one home run and has been hit with four runs so far this season.
