The LA Lakers are on the verge of signing Marcus Smart and are set to end the spell at Washington Wizards.
This offseason This offseason is set to be the beneficiary of the acquisition.
After the Lakers photographed DeAndre Ayton in free agency, they are now set to sign Marcus Smart.
Shams Charania reports that Marcus Smart is set to agree to an acquisition from the Washington Wizards contract, from which he will agree to a deal with La Lakers.
He reports: “Marcus Smart agrees to acquire the deal with the Washington Wizards and clears the exemption before signing a two-year, $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.”
Once the LA Lakers clears the exemption, they will need to create a roster and pay cap space to add Marcus Smart to their roster.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks says the Lakers need to free up space and believes Shake Milton will go in close proximity.
Milton is expected to win a $3 million guarantee if he is still on the roster on Sunday, July 20th. The Lakers cost $909,000 more than the original apron.
Marks explains: “The Lakers will need to clear their payroll to use the $5.1 million two-day exception for $909,000 than the original apron. Shake Milton’s salary is expected to be guaranteed on a $3 million Sunday.”
Milton was bought by trade in December 2024, playing 30 times in the regular season and started once.
Jordan Goodwin’s future regarding the Lakers is also uncertain. He owes £2.3 million and is guaranteed to just $25,000.
Smart is a veteran who helps the Lakers aim to “win now.” He has valuable candidate experience with the Boston Celtics.
He started with the Memphis Grizzlies last season before being traded to Wizard last season. Now he’s off to a fresh start when the Lakers take turns getting books.
