The Showtime era was undoubtedly the most exciting time to become a Los Angeles Lakers fan.
After all, Los Angeles Lakers fans witnessed the dynamic duo of Kareem Abdul Jabber and Magic Johnson in the 1980s, with Magic Johnson leading the team to five NBA titles.
Additionally, the Lakers were finally on equal terms with longtime NBA rivals Boston Celtics.
Clearly, Showtime era players are still treated with respect by Laker nations around the world.
Fans have often heard that the Showtime Lakers have dominated the court for nearly a decade, but learning about behind the scenes’ stories is always interesting.
Well, franchise legend Abdul Jabbar has recently shed some hilarious pranks that players have pulled away from each other.
“I remember when I left Boston they cut out my jeans. Well, they had even got me and me for some tricks I played on them. We had a really good one that switched shirts.”
He added: “Larry Spriggs and Mike McGee came overnight wearing the same shirt, the two guys they hang out together, often dressed in the same way, and Larry was much bigger than Mike.”
Now, that’s how you can build solid chemistry from the courts while keeping the atmosphere of your locker room light.
You might wonder if these off-court pranks pulled the team back by performing even more on the hardwood, just as the Lakers did during that era.
Well, Abdul Jabbar believes these pranks are one of the best ways for them to care for “bortion” as they pointed out that being a professional athlete is a repetitive process.
“Some of the professional athletes, you have to deal with boredom. You have to go somewhere, you have to study the player, you have to do it again.
“So we’ll keep it light and do our best to entertain each other,” Kareem said.
The Showtime Lakers five NBA titles in the 1980s are evidence that these methods worked for all players on the roster.
