Wimbledon, UK – Janik Thinner’s Wimbledon title could mean he can retain Darren Cahill as one of his coaches beyond this season.

In January, when Thinner was on his way to win the Australian Open, it was revealed that Cahill would leave his role as one of two coaches of the No. 1 player at the end of 2025.

After the sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday for the championship at Wimbledon, Cahill was asked if he would reconsider his decision to leave the team.

“I don’t want to answer this,” replied Cahill, an ESPN analyst. “What do you know? You need to ask Giannik about it.”

So, Italian reporters followed those instructions and paused the topic with a smile on the sinner.

“It depends,” the sinner began saying, “Do you want to tell the truth?”

And he began to explain the entire Italian situation, revealing that perhaps the Cahill exit was not set to stone after all.

That’s because the two had a conversation on a Saturday night.

“We had a bet before the final. He said: ‘If I win tomorrow, I can decide whether or not I will stay,” the sinner said. “Now, the choice is mine. I’ve always been looking for someone who is honest, someone who would give me a lot. It’s not necessarily just the tennis court, but the way to live (about).”

The sinner went on to say that he wanted to leave Cahill behind. Thinner also admitted that if Cahill continued to work with co-coach Simone Vagnozzi, Cahill probably wouldn’t travel on the tour as he is now.

“The season is long. There are a lot of tournaments. You never know,” Thinner said. “But let’s say I won the bet. So we’re watching what happens.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
