Man United have been criticized many times in recent years for their transfer business, but one particular deal has come under fire again.
Ruben Amorim added Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lamence to his squad over the summer, but much of the attention has been on the continuing players. Marcus Rashford and Anthony have enjoyed success in Spain with Barcelona and Real Betis respectively, but Rasmus Hjølund is arguably the player in his best form since leaving Old Trafford.
Manchester United should have kept Rasmus Hjølund, says
Hoylund, who left Manchester United and joined Napoli on a one-season loan with an obligation to buy him next summer, has been in great form recently, scoring four goals in six games for the current Serie A champions. And according to Football Insider, Keith Wyness has criticized the Old Trafford bosses for allowing the 22-year-old to leave permanently.
“This is just another example of what Man United have done wrong. You see McTominay and Hojlund doing so well at Napoli, getting a great new life and performing well together. United would be killing for that kind of combination now. If they weren’t at United before, United would be looking to sign them now. So, yeah, it’s another symptom of things not going well.”
“There are a lot of players who have been released from United who would have been very good players. We weren’t stupid to bring them in, but we were stupid to bring them in given the system we play. So that’s the problem with United. Hojland is another example of a quality player who wasn’t given a proper chance or didn’t stick around long enough to prove himself at United.”
Manchester United may end up regretting Hojlund’s departure, but it could also be a lesson in maintaining faith in Sesco, who replaced the Dane in Amorim’s team. He has struggled since joining from RB Leipzig in the summer, but is still in the early stages of his career at the club.
