Donovan Mitchell took responsibility for himself after the Cleveland Cavaliers fell into a 123-112 defeat to the Phoneix Suns.
This was the Cavs’ fourth loss after they were undefeated 16 games, but despite recent disappointments, the team is at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Donovan Mitchell managed to score seven points and struggled to shoot when it went 2-18 off the field.
Darius Garland and Evan Mobley paired with 34 points, but the Suns, led by Kevin Durant, did enough to grab the victory in the night.
The recent losses meant that the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t have the best record in the league, but because of the depth of talent they have, they still look like candidates.
Posting a match against the Suns, Cavs Guard Mitchell looked visibly annoyed by his individual performances and was held responsible for the defeat.
Mitchell had an incredible season averaged 23.8 ppg, but even he has struggled to shoot the ball on a four-game winning streak for the Cavs.
After his defeat against the Suns, Mitchell said:
“Yeah, we have to get better, rebound and defend things like that, but if I’m not the person I need to do, we’re not going to get where we’re going.”
Mitchell believes his performance reflects the outcome and says he needs to get better.
“I lost four straights in this thing in the last four games.
“I have to make it better and simple. You can refer to a variety of things, such as KD having 30.
“I have to get better for the group. I’ve been good for the group all year round. This is what I mean,” he added.
Mitchell is a player who has consistently worked well in the playoffs.
He averaged 29.6 PPPGs in the playoffs last season, which is exactly what the team expects from him this time too.
His ability to promote in the postseason is what separates him from other players, and this season, the performances the Cavs are showing off, and they can get it out of the east.
His leadership is elite and along with something like Evan Mobley, who has a sensational season and Jarrett Allen, the Cavs have one of the most talented starting lineups in the NBA.
Everything looks to fit the Cavs, putting pressure on Mitchell to lead the team to playoff glory.
The Boston Celtics bring them a challenge, but the Cavs are now in the postseason and if Mitchell plays the way he has in the previous Posteasons, they can defeat the reality champion.
