Tottenham could look to make a change at the top of their attack team when the January transfer window opens.
According to Football Insider, the club are considering replacing Dominic Solanke, who has struggled to find form and fitness under manager Thomas Frank.
The England international was signed with high expectations after his impressive spell at Bournemouth, but injury and inconsistency have meant he has not been able to make the impact he had hoped.
Tottenham want to remain competitive in domestic and European competitions and the board are considering options for the forward, with former Brentford star Ivan Toney reportedly one of the frontrunners.
Dominic Solanke struggles at Tottenham
Solanke’s move to Tottenham was aimed at providing a focal point for Spurs’ attack.
However, things did not go as planned. Since joining the North London outfit, the 28-year-old striker has faced a number of fitness setbacks that have limited his rhythm and confidence in front of goal.
Even when available, Solanke has struggled to replicate his Bournemouth form, and his movement, pressing and ability to bring teammates into play have made him one of the Premier League’s most underrated forwards.
Frank was frustrated by the lack of consistency. The Dane made it clear to Tottenham’s recruitment team that the squad needed a striker who was immediately available and who could adapt seamlessly to intense demands.
Could Ivan Toney replace Solanke at Spurs?
In that regard, Tony emerged as a natural target. The Al Ahly attacker had played under Frank at Brentford, and the manager and attacker had a strong relationship.
Frank feels he can get the best out of Tony and the attacker should return to England from the Middle East.
If Tottenham bring in a new forward, it could open the door for Solanke to aim for regular minutes elsewhere.
January is fast approaching and Spurs need to make bold moves to strengthen their frontline and keep pace with their Premier League rivals.
