The Miami Heat failed to obtain Kevin Durant after the Phoenix Suns traded the former MVP for the Houston Rockets.

The Suns received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, their first round pick and five second round picks on their blockbuster.

Miami is Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Haywood Highsmith, No. He hesitated to provide 20 picks and additional draft assets. Phoenix rejected their suggestions and forced the heat to explore alternative options.

The Heat’s first round playoff elimination revealed a roster flaw that needs to be addressed. Three realistic trade targets could help Miami return to the championship race next season.

Miami’s playoff struggle highlighted the need for a primary ball handler beyond Tyler Hero. The previously shared liability between Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry now perfectly falls on Hero’s shoulder.

Trae Young represents an ideal solution to Miami’s aggressive orchestration problems. The Atlanta Hawks star is excellent at playmaking, off-floor and pick-and-roll execution.

Young’s presence will maximize the attacking abilities of Bam Adebayo and Young Center Kel’el Ware. His proven ability to create big men’s scoring opportunities is perfectly in line with the strengths of the Miami frontcourt.

However, attracting young people requires important financial commitments. The heat will close the deal at the expense of Andrew Wiggins, Duncan Robinson, young talent, and multiple first-round picks.

Jonathan Cuminga offers explosive athletic ability and versatility tailored to Miami’s physical, high-energy identity. The Golden State Warriors forward could replace Butler’s directness and toughness.

Kuminga’s defensive switching ability allows him to effectively defend multiple positions. His youngster offers long-term development possibilities under the Miami player development system.

The Warriors forward has yet to develop into a major playmaker, but his raw talent suggests an important advantage. His skill set complements Miami’s existing core, addressing the need for wing depth.

A sign-and-trade scenario with Golden State is less expensive than chasing young people in Miami. Economic flexibility makes Kuminga an attractive central option for heat.

Lauri Markkanen appeared as one of the league’s best stretches before the struggle last season. He shot 39.9% from the 3-point range during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Finnish forward delivered more than 20 points rebounds per game at his peak. Its production levels greatly alleviate aggressive pressure from Hero and Adebayo.

Miami desperately needs a trustworthy forward who can create their own attacks. Markanen’s ability to stretch the floor while providing consistent scoring addresses. Multiple roster needs.

His length and rebound ability provide defensive value despite not being an elite anchor. The combination of offensive production and defensive contributions makes him extremely valuable.

To acquire Markanen, you will need substantial compensation from Miami. The Heat will likely need to include Wiggins, role players and first-round draft capital to meet Utah’s asking price.
