Jason Kidd could be running to take over the New York Knicks after the franchise fired Tom Thibodeau.
After losing in the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Knicks made a puzzled and surprising choice to fire Coach Tom Thibodeau.
Thibodeau has led them to the best season of the 21st century and there are plenty of good candidates for the Knicks to target, but some prime ministers, such as Jay Wright, Michael Malone and Rick Pitino, don’t seem interested in getting a job.
The Knicks are able to poach coaches from another team than any other team in the league. With their massive media markets, star-studded rosters and owners willing to spend, the job may be appealing.
Jason Kidd has been a successful head coach for the Dallas Mavericks, but the volatile front office may be looking for a green pasture for him.
With Kid already linked to the Knicks and the Mavericks still dealing with the aftermath from Luka Donsic’s trade, Dallas was no longer the destination Kid thought he was.
Kidd is a long shot from New York, but he can’t count.
“I’m not going to sit here and tell you what J. Kidd wants to or thinks he’s out of Dallas,” said ESPN’s Tim McMahon.
“There was certainly a decision. There was a major franchise decision that he wasn’t on board.”
Kidd seemed shocked at the Mavericks’ choice to trade Don Sic, but perhaps he was appalled, but he reacted more to the squirts of support staff and was able to reunite with one of New York’s best trainers.
“Kidd has been very tight with (trainer Casey Smith) since his second tenure as a Dallas player who now runs the New York Knicks Health and Performance Group,” McMahon continued.
The Knicks were in the final of the conference and the Mavericks couldn’t even make the playoffs, but Kidd may enjoy more long-term success in Dallas.
Of course, Mavs was founded for success before Doncic Trade, but after winning the NBA Draft lottery, they were able to land generational talents on the Cooper Flag and build them except for trade.
“They are trying to draft a potential generation of players,” Brian Windhorst said.
Kidd has worked with both Don Sic and Giannis Anteto Compo, supporting flowers to both MVP candidates and superstars, and Flags could be lined up next.
But while Kidd seemed to enjoy coaching Jalen Branson, there is also a soft spot for the current Mavericks player.
“He loves Kylie and he loves ads,” McMahon finished. “I think I have confidence that the Mavericks can once again become a very good team next season.”
It looks like a roster has been created to help Kid find a chance to succeed and become a long-term fixture in Dallas.
