Nico Harrison has made a more poignant response to the media discussing Luka Donsic’s trade.
On behalf of the Dallas Mavericks, general manager Nico Harrison admitted that the team could have better handled the fallout from Luka Donsic’s trade.
It was clear that the Mavericks were caught off guard by an overwhelmingly negative reaction to trade.
CEO Rick Welts admitted he was stunned by his broken relationship with his fans, and that it was something he had never seen before.
And in his latest press conference, Nico Harrison admitted that he was unaware of how much Luka Donsic is loved by Dallas.
Harrison said: “I knew Luka was important to the fan base. I didn’t know what level.”
At the end of ESPN’s NBA segment today, Mavericks expert Tim McMahon was asked about Nico Harrison’s comments.
McMahon dismissed Harrison’s claims and admitted he was confused by the way Harrison was unable to make that connection.
He said:
“This is the first five-time Team All-NBA selection, and hasn’t hit Prime yet, and due to his loyalty to the franchise, he won a torch in one uniform for 21 years from Dirk Nowitzki, who literally recorded the record.”
He continued to refer to Nowicki, who loses his relationship with the Mavericks, an idolatrous player in Dallas.
Donsic was heartbroken by trade and thought of himself for the rest of his life as Dallas Maverick before being sent to pack.
McMahon received further criticism from Nico Harrison. Nico Harrison claimed he could not judge this season due to the injury of the team.
He noted that Harrison was responsible for appointing the healthcare leaders who managed all of this.
McMahon said: “These injuries that Nico Harrison still calls the reason he can’t judge trade. There were a lot of issues with that health and performance group. They’re all hiring Nico Harrison’s handpicked.
“Frankly, this was a massive disruption and miscalculation for the Dallas Mavericks this whole season, but Nico Harrison has convinced Patrick Dumont.
“We’ll see if that’s going to be next season, but this year certainly didn’t happen.”
