The Los Angeles Lakers have been warned that one of the potential “solutions” at the center may not be appropriate.
Speaking shortly after the playoffs were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves, La Lakers general manager Rob Perinka has pledged to strengthen at center position this offseason.
Pelinka was under pressure on one hope production when Deandre Ayton hit free agency after an agreement was made to buy the Portland Trail Blazers and player representatives, and one hope emerged.
Shams Charania reported that Ayton is the player he’s watching as the Lakers are trying to strengthen.
Deandre Ayton is also a player with personal connections with Luka Doncic and has a high acclaim for the La Lakers superstar.
But is he really the perfect Slovenian? ESPN Insider Tim McMahon claims that is not the case.
He told Hoop Collective:
He cited the failed partnership between Luka Donsic and Christaps Porzingis at the Dallas Mavericks.
“I’m hoping to post Ayton. I remember the whole Porzingis posted with Luka.
“Luka needs that dynamic pick and a big big name that can be a threat to the roll lob or shoot three.
McMahon has named Brooke Lopez and Clint Capella as two suitable options for Luka Donsic.
The Athletic Report Lakers are interested in both players, and Lopez could potentially return to the second spell in LA.
It’s clear that the Lakers have to do somethingand there’s no perfect solution for a league where centers are in demand and the Lakers have little assets.
But Doncic is also his own asset. Playing with the stars is a big attraction for the centre and should have the ability to support simple dunks.
