The Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB) introduced former New Zealand’s First Bowler Tim Southie ahead of the British Summer. The veteran cricketer has been appointed as a professional skills consultant for the English men’s team and will work together on the side in short-term assignments.
Southie recently concluded his 16-year international career as New Zealand’s greatest wicket taker of all time. England will host a one-off Test against Zimbabwe and a five-match series against India. They aim to bounce back after overwhelming performances in Test cricket over the past two seasons.

On Thursday, the England and Wales Cricket Committee announced on its website that Tim Southey has joined the short-term as a specialist skills consultant. Southty will support England in all forms until the end of the Test Series against India.

“Former New Zealand International Tim Southie has joined the ECB in the short term as a specialized skills consultant for the English men’s team,” the statement reads.
“The South Tee 36, who retired from International Cricket in December as New Zealand’s greatest wicket takers of all time, will support England’s teams across all forms, until the end of the Rothsai Test series against India.
Tim Southey resumes role playing in 100 for Birmingham Phoenix
After completing consulting work with England during the international summer, Tim Southey will continue his commitment to the Birmingham Phoenix franchise at 100 later this year.
“Following his consultant stint, he will resume his 100 duties for Birmingham Phoenix,” the statement added.
“The South will link with the team ahead of England’s international summer opening fixture (Ross Sai test against Zimbabwe) before it starts at Trent Bridge next Thursday.”
Kiwi averaged 30.26 and scored 391 wickets in 107 Tests. He is the second-highest wicket taker in Test cricket in New Zealand. In all formats, Southy is New Zealand’s top wicket taker with 776 wickets in 394 international matches.
Tim Southey reunites with former teammate Brendon McCulm
The South will be joining the English team ahead of their first international summer match. They will face Zimbabwe in a one-off Test at Trent Bridge starting next Thursday. England will take part in the new world Test Championship Cycle. There, it is hoped that his experience will enhance the coaching setup.
Southie will also be reunited with former New Zealand teammate and current England Test coach Brendon McCallum. The two shared the New Zealand field in 170 matches, with McCulum captaining in 78 of those matches.
They also played together for Middlesex on the IPL’s Royal Challenger Bengaluru and T20 Blast. When South did the final test at Hamilton, McCollum presented him with a bottle of red wine signed by the England team.
