Wimbledon, England – Japan’s Toki Tooda defeated his biggest rival and defending champion British Alfie Hewette to win the second Wimbledon title in the men’s wheelchair singles final, beating 7-5, 6-2 on Sunday.
Oda and Hewett have won the last 10 Grand Slam titles. This was the seventh title I met in the final.
On Sunday, ODA broke four times in the opening set, but saved the breakpoints faced by the decider and converted the fourth matchpoint.
This was the 19-year-old ODA’s sixth major title overall, with 27-year-old Hewette looking for 11th place.
For Hewett, he was the runner-up on the second day of two. Hewett lost Doubles Final along with Gordon Reid. The British duo were defeated 7-6 (1), 7-5 by Spain’s Martin de la Puente and Netherlands’ Reuben Spargalen.
