Tom Aspinall is thinking about Jon Jones.
For over a year, Aspinel sat on the bystander waiting for a battle that would never come. Instead of signing the dotted line for the much-anticipated heavyweight unification collision, “Bone” chose to abandon his belt.
By then, the UFC had already promoted Aspinall from the interim to the indisputable champions and began working on setting up his first title defense. On October 25th, Aspinall will place gold on the line for the first time against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi.
Jones jumped straight back into the test pool and began asking if anyone could immediately see the “bone” and aspinel squares.
According to Aspinall, the answer is simple.
“A companion who is not interested,” Aspinel told Ariel Helwani during his battle with John Jones. “And don’t even have any interest in the world, because what is the point? Just a false hope.”
Tom Aspinall doesn’t think about anything other than Ciryl Gane
Instead, Aspinall will focus on defeating “Bongamine” at Etihad Arina this fall.
“I’m already in the fight, so I’m focusing on that. … For the next 10 weeks of my life, all I’m thinking is Ciryl Gane and how to beat him,” Aspinall said.
Aspinall was 8-1 under the UFC banner and his only loss occurred in July 2022 through an unusual injury in the first 15 seconds scheduled scrap with Curtis Blaydes.
