Daniel Cormier knows firsthand what beef is like with UFC heavyweight champion John Jones.
Cormier engaged in one of the biggest rivalries in the history of Jones and the UFC, bringing two title fights. Cormier lost both fights with Jones. Their rematch was overturned to a no-contest after Jones tested positive for a banned substance.
Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) is continuing to plunge Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) to try his long-awaited title consolidation match. He appeared with a rubber duck at the UFC Fight Night 255 event on Saturday in O2, London.
Cormier warns Aspinall that the fight against Jones will be a different experience than what he has experienced before.
“He’s very mean,” Kolmier said of Jones about Sonnen and “good guy/bad guy.” “He’s durable, he’s hard to fight, and Tom Aspinol is trying to find it, right? So, yes, I love ducks, I love all the fun, when I get there with that guy, when you get there with that guy, you don’t start to rethink things. “I thought it was because he’s going to put it on you.”
Aspinall provided a positive update about his fight with Jones after meeting with UFC Brass last week. Britt was torn through his competition, and all his past five victories came by round one knockouts. He recently defended an interim title against Curtis Braides at UFC 304.
Cormier doubts Aspinall will have another easy night against Jones and wants to know how he will handle the later rounds.
“I don’t think Aspinall feels that way,” continued Cormier. “You’re Tom Aspinol and you know what’s the craziest thing about winning when you’re young? The fans and the world can really make you go. And you’re there, you start to lose, and you’re like, ‘God dang it, how am I losing?” If it starts showing itself in a fight or a long battle, how will he deal with it?
