Tom Tunstall has been made public for the first time since being involved in a horrifying incident at Oulton Park.
The crash in the first round of the British Superbike Championship tragically took the lives of Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson.
Tonstall, who was also caught up in the 11-rider incident in a super sports race, broke his neck.
His family previously confirmed he was stable and he was undergoing treatment for his injuries.
Now Tunstall has released his image (at the top of this page) and explained his ordeal.
“It’s been a difficult few weeks, but I’m very happy to be out of the hospital,” he wrote.
“And we are making step-by-step progress every day.
“It’s desperately sad to hear about the tragic loss of Owen and Shane. Both great and authentic people and extremely talented riders went too early.
“My thoughts and sincere condolences lie with their family, friends and team.
“It’s not the start of Season 31, which I wanted, but these are the cards that were dealt.
“Multiple fractures to the C1 vertebra, torn ligaments, cracked skull – supported by a halo frame screwed into the head for the next 2-3 months after 8 days of traction.
“The isolated clavicle, damaged rotator cuff, and nerve problems with my tongue are very slightly improved every day.
“I am extremely grateful for the quality of all the care I received from the trackside, the medical centre and the hospital, and their expertise has given me the best chance of recovery.
“I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by all the kind words, actions, messages, cards, and hopes – thank you.”
