Tommy Edman hit five home runs in the first nine games of the 2025 season. He slammed three of them from the left side while batting.
Throughout his switch hitter career, his results at the plate have been significantly better when batting right-handed compared to left-handed.
However, with the help of the ‘ hit coach, Edman improved his left-handed batting. Now he shows a more consistent swing from both sides in 2025.

The focused on getting Edman upright rather than dropping his back shoulders in the offseason.
“When I’m tall,” Edman told Athletic, “I can go on a direct path to pitching, and I have more power behind it.”
The said they hit coach Robert Van Scoyock. Edman said he tends to push his swing “uphill.” However, he believed that the coaching staff changed Edman’s swing and looked the same as the other .
“We saw him playing for years and felt like we’ve been seeing for years what we can do to help him improve,” Van Scoyock said.
“There are a lot of natural components, the mechanics of his hands, the innate skill set,” added Van Scoyock. “So you put it together, make some adjustments, know what we know about the swing and how it works – if he looks like someone who has what he’s doing, he’s like how it’s played.”
In addition to five home runs this season, Edman has cut .259/.293/.575 with .867 OPS and 11 RBI.
The 2024 National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player was a major contributor to the ‘ World Series victory. And based on his performances in the first few weeks of the season, Edman remains an important piece of ‘ puzzles.
