The right-hander tried to wipe the blood off his thumb, so Gonsorin had blood stains on his pants. The right-hander gave up two home runs in the first innings, including a leadoff shot to Angels shortstop Zack Neto.
fans held their breath as Gonsorin was checked out by his trainer. Manager Dave Roberts was able to watch him chat with Landon Knuck, who is scheduled to start Monday on the game’s broadcast.
Thankfully, Gonsolin was able to continue the game and returned second innings 1-2-3. The right-hander hit three batters on five walks on his 97 pitch, four innings outing.
Following the fourth start of Gonsorin’s season, the 31-year-old spoke about his bloody finger incident in the first frame of Sunday’s 6-4 defeat to Hello.
“I had dead skin after the bullpen and I tried to pick it up,” Gonsorin said. “So I got good skin. I just wouldn’t stop the bleeding.”
He was also asked if it led to his inferior outing.
“I mean potentially, but I don’t make excuses for myself like that,” he said. “I still had to run the pitch and I wasn’t doing it today.”
Gonsorin has earned a 4.05 ERA and 1.300 whips in 20 innings this season. The right-hander returned from the injured list on April 30th. The appeared to have plenty of pitching depth to start the season, but the rotation quickly dried up as Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Joi Samoto were sidelined with injuries.
For Gonsorin, there’s essentially no time to settle down, as the inevitably need him to succeed just two months after the 2025 campaign.
